Recap: Workshop on Unlocking Podcast Potential for Churches
The three-day “Unlocking Podcast Potential For Churches” workshop in Warri, Delta State, was a resounding success. Here's what went down...
Day 1: Introduction to Podcasting for Churches
We started the workshop with an enthusiastic group of church media team members and a couple of pastors.
I started by explaining the concept of podcasting and why it's a powerful tool for churches to extend their messages beyond the church walls. The discussion included an overview of recording techniques, popular platforms, and directories where podcasts can be published. To illustrate the impact of podcasting, I shared videos, including a testimony from Pastor Seun Osigbesan of Gracemade Christian Centre who successfully expanded his church’s audience through this medium.

Day 2: Practical Production and Promotion
The second day was hands-on, focusing on the production workflow. Participants learned to create sample promotional materials such as podcast cover art, show titles, and descriptions using tools like ChatGPT and Canva.
We walked through the process of uploading and publishing podcasts on Afripods. A crucial point of discussion was the naming of podcasts—whether to name them after the pastor or the church. This is particularly important if a pastor might be reassigned to a different location. To streamline the process, I recommended using a unique email address dedicated to all sermon-to-podcast tasks, ensuring seamless transitions for new team members without needing to share personal details. Participants received comprehensive notes and web links to further resources after the session.
Day 3: Publishing and Community Building
On the final day, we published a demo sermon podcast and addressed general questions about the topics we had covered throughout the workshop.
We agreed to support the first cohort through an exclusive community we’ve created, which will allow us to continue providing guidance and receive their feedback.
Among the podcasts launched after the workshop were Neville Waye Podcast, The PSD Experience, Foursquare Gospel Church Warri District HQ, His Voice Audio Network, home to His Voice: The Mandate of The Lord and Sermons with Pastor Chi.

The workshop was an enlightening experience for all involved, providing valuable insights and practical skills for leveraging podcasts to enhance church outreach.
